Helping Claire - a Framework Street Outreach team story - 09/11/2021
We go on outreach every morning from 6am to look for rough sleepers. We go to the usual places where we know to find rough sleepers but we also rely on referrals that we receive through the public or other services.
We received one referral from a local area office to say there were concerned about a resident who had lost her property. She was reported to be staying in the stairwell of her old block. We went the next morning and found ‘Claire’.
Claire was in her 60s and quite frail. She had been evicted due to no payment of rent. Her benefits had stopped two years ago and things had got on top of her. She had not paid rent since 2019. We gave Claire our card and asked her to meet us at Howden House later to get assessed. Later she called our free phone number when she arrived in town and Framework met her at the council. A council worker assessed her and immediately got her placed in a BnB.
This was great news as it was a Friday and the forecast looked stormy over the weekend. Framework took Claire up to the BnB and she got settled in quickly. Since that day we have picked her up and taken her to a food bank to get a food parcel. She has told us that she feels very settled and happy. There are council workers at the BnB who will help her with support needs such as benefits, registered with a GP and ultimately moving on to permanent accommodation.
